Envy: Installing NVIDIA and ATI drivers on Linux is now only a few clicks away

New stable and unstable versions of Envy were made available this week by Alberto Milone.

Envy is a really practical Linux (Debian-based) application written in Python that automatically detects your video card, and then downloads and installs the latest driver version available for it.

It also takes care of the dependencies and installs the required modules, if any, as well as it provides a just as simple uninstall option if you ever have the need to do a clean re-installation or if, for some reason, you wanted to remove all trace of proprietary drivers from your system.

Another commendable feature of Envy is its ability to configure your Xorg configuration automatically based on your system information.

It goes without saying that Envy makes use of a GUI (graphical user interface) to make its use as user friendly as possible. A text based version exists, nonetheless, for those who need more control over the options proposed by this script/application.
