North American Sales Data June & Japan Sales Data
Wednesday 25th July 2007, 10:00:00 PM, written by Stefan SalzlAnother monthly update on the sales numbers in North America and a few weeks worth of Japanese sales. As in May, Nintendo's products continue their dominance in both regions.

Due to the fact that June is comprised of 5 weeks in the NPD calendar, overall sales seem to have increased, even though weekly sales are actually down. Regardless, the overall situation remains similar to May's data:
The Nintendo DS is continuing to stay on top of the sales charts with 561,900 units sold, followed by Wii sales of 381,800 units. Third place taker is again Sony's PlayStation Portable which continues to show very good sales (290,100 units sold), most likely because of the recent price cut.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 sold almost 200,000 units and beat its HD rival PlayStation 3 by a margin of nearly 100,000 units. This gap is expected to be reduced in July after the quasi-price reduction of Sony's next-generation console at E3.

The Canadian sales data remains largely unchanged compared to May - only the Nintendo's GameBoy Advance and Sony's PlayStation 3 switched places. In contrast to the US market, Wii is selling more than its handheld counterpart, Nintendo DS. A similar situation is observed with regard to Sony: the PlayStation 2 is currently more in demand than the PlayStation Portable.

The Japanese sales data continues to show the strength of the Nintendo brand in the land of the rising sun. The charts are as usual lead by the Nintendo DS Lite, followed by the Wii. Sony's PlayStation Portable has now established itself solidly as the third strongest video game hardware in the Japanese market. Generally, weekly sales have been growing compared to May and early June.
Interestingly, the release of Trusty Bell: Chopin's Dream (called Eternal Sonata in North America) boosted Xbox 360 sales in the week from June 11th to June 17th to well over 7,000 sold units. However, the sales of the Microsoft's console have returned to normal with about 3000 units sold in each of the following weeks.
Following the release of the well-received Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, a DS title in the style of GCN's Windwaker, on June 23rd, the stagnating DS sales picked up again and are continuing to sell well above 135,000 units per week. Meanwhile the game itself has now been sold more than 580,000 times.
With the release of another entry in the famous game franchise Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, Wii sales jumped to over 100,000 units sold during the week from July 9th to July 15th.
Sony's PSP continues to sell above the 30,000 units mark. Moreover the last generation console, PlayStation 2, still enjoys very good sales of more than 11,000 units per week, with a small sales spike at the end of June and the beginning of July due to the release of Super Robot Wars: Original Generations. Meanwhile the PlayStation 3 has now returned to sell more than 10,000 units per week after the overall market has picked up again.
