The Port Report: Empire Strikes Back Edition

The porting gnomes have returned from summer hols and are getting back up to speed. Though it should be noted that the monster reviews that Beyond3D is justly famous for are not exactly fast porting tasks.

For this edition, we have a series of reviews that, quite by accident, tell something of a story --the story of the fall and rise of GeForce. First, ATI's sainted Radeon 9700 Pro, responsible for making the NVIDIAns look to their laurels in a way that hadn't been necessary in some time. And then, the response from Santa Clara that let Jen-Hsun get his groove back --the NV40 and G70. Lastly, the 7800 GTX 512, which. . umm. . .well, I think I'll leave that one alone.

The gnomes, secretive at the best of times, have not given many hints on what's up next, but I think I did hear one of them muttering something about a sundog or somesuch...
