Originally expected to start shipping by October, the latest chipset from NVIDIA, MCP78, will finally take off by November. Amongst the three chipsets from the MCP78 family scheduled to launch this November, only two support integrated graphics capabilities.

AMD have released Catalyst 7.7, their July monthly display driver release for this year. There's a round of fixes and improvements as usual, with the big addition being edge detect AA support for all chips in the new family. Finally I can finish testing the bloody things.

Yesterday the good folks at The Tech Report reported on an issue affecting a good chunk of GeForce 8800 users, where 3D graphics performance would fall into the toilet at random and wouldn't come back until you restarted the game or tabbed out and back in.

In a common press release issued today, Intel announced its new laptop high-end CPU, the Core 2 Extreme X7800, but also new desktop parts. These desktop parts include the new company flagship, the Core 2 Extreme QX6850 quad-core processor.
