Radeon HD 3870 supply hampered by a board-level manufacturing issue

The Tech Report have uncovered information about why the recently launched AMD Radeon HD 3870 hasn't shown up in volume for folks to buy, at least as far as unbundled retail goes. Pricing details are also revealed.

The report states that a resistor issue on 3870 models has caused a slight hiccup in supply, while that gets fixed at the board level. To compensate for the lack of supply, AMD are reportedly shifting the 3850/3870 production balance so that when boards do finally show up to buy, they're plentiful. RV670 production is hot to trot, TR say.

Added to that, there's some pricing data to consume. Hit up the report to check it all out.
