NVIDIA releases first public beta of PerfHUD 5

NVIDIA has just released the first public beta of PerfHUD 5, its performance profiling tool for Windows. PerfHUD 5 is a major upgrade that includes all sorts of new features, such as shader edit-and-continue, D3D10 support, and a much nicer interface. Our article from GDC '07 has a few more details on just what PerfHUD can do.

Sadly, you can't just run PerfHUD on any app--you need to make a slight source-level modification before you can use PerfHUD to prevent unauthorized parties (like, for example, Beyond3D) from profiling your application. In addition, there's still no support for 64-bit operating systems, a limitation that makes us particularly sad.

Regardless, if you are a developer, you should definitely check it out and let us know what you think.

Dumb question (perhaps) does this software require one to have an NV-powered graphics card? I ask because of the "instrumented driver".
I'm not a dev, I just think this would be a useful performance analysis tool.

Well, yeah. It's similar to PIX in that it accesses specific counters on the card, but there are certainly not AMD drivers for it...
