Spring IDF: More Penryn performance information

Intel has let the press benchmark Penryn and Yorkfield against Kentsfield at IDF, and the results available at Hexus are quite promising to say the least. IPC seems to have improved by about 10% on average, but the most shocking benchmark is HL2: Lost Coast with 40%+ performance boosts compared to Conroe/Kentsfield.

SSE4 is also showing some great potential in video decoding applications. Amusingly enough, however, the part of the process it helps most is also one which G84/G86 (and, according to rumours, R6xx) can now offload for decoding. We presume it'll still help for encoding though, so we're sure those who like to transcode their videos will appreciate this quite a bit.
