Scaleform, a Maryland based company specialising in vector rendering middleware, announced yesterday that their Scaleform GFx SDK has now been made available for Sony’s PlayStation 3 and PSP platforms. Scaleform's pre-existing middleware portfolio includes GNU/Linux, Windows, and Mac for the PC, both of Microsoft's Xbox consoles, and some ARM based devices.

Scaleform GFx is a graphic hardware accelerated vector engine. The engine tessellates source vector graphics into flat polygons which can be rendered natively on the GPU. Scaleform stresses that its GFx SDK is highly interoperable with vector authoring tools such as market leader Adobe's Flash.

Such vector engines can be used for creating interactive, scalable and low footprint GUIs, or even entire games based on vector rendering.
