Mercedes Benz Truck Racing Demo

Mercedes Benz Truck Racing is a DirectX based demo, which is fairly fillrate intensive.

The demo has plenty of options, and for the purposes of this review I used the following:
Reflections On
Mippmapping On
Alpha Adjust On
24Bit Textures On
Bright Mode On
Alpha Textures On

Mercedes Benz Truck Racing appears to be a pretty intensive game, both on the Geometry and fillrate elements. We get a maximum of nearly 30FPS at 640x480, with a steady decrease of FPS through the resolutions, however the fillrate graphs also shows a steady increase in fillrate performance as well. The fillrate graph only begins to show a plateau in 32Bit between for 1280x1024 and 1600x1200; presumably we are beginning to get bandwidth limited here.

For some reason the demo failed with FSAA enabled in 1024x768 resolutions; upon load the game would just hang the system. Of the two resolutions that did work OK we can see that we actually get reasonable gains in comparison to the normal resolution with FSAA - the performance penalty goes to 50% with 4X FSAA.

Unreal Tournament

Reverend's UT 'Thunder' Demo was used for benchmarking here.

Bot texture detail and Skin detail were set to high in the demo.

Traditionally UT is associated with being fairly CPU limited, however the 'Thunder' demo appears to scale quite well with resolution. Scores for the Vivid! Board stay relatively respectable throughout all resolutions. The fillrate graph once again shows a pretty stable increase in fill performance as we go through the resolutions. The 32Bit performance comparison shows a variants of between 10% and 19%, which isn't too great.

The 4XFSAA hit is again quite high - from 43% to 63%. The low resolution performance hit is illustration of the fillrate limitation KYRO has for FSAA operations.
