Games Benchmarks - Counter Strike: Source, Video Stress Test Detailed

X700 XT (FPS) | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x960 | 1600x1200 |
Normal | 168.3 | 156.3 | 115.3 | 88.5 | 57.2 |
8x AF | 160.3 | 135.2 | 91.2 | 72.8 | 49.9 |
4x FSAA | 163.6 | 140.3 | 96.6 | 71.1 | 38.0 |
4x FSAA + 8x AF | 146.9 | 116.0 | 76.9 | 60.0 | 31.8 |
% Diff from Normal | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x960 | 1600x1200 |
8x AF | -4.8% | -13.5% | -20.9% | -17.7% | -12.8% |
4x FSAA | -2.8% | -10.2% | -16.3% | -19.7% | -33.5% |
4x FSAA + 8x AF | -12.7% | -25.8% | -33.3% | -32.2% | -44.3% |
On the X700 XT we see that the performance penalty for enabling either 4x FSAA or 8x AF is about the same before 1600x1200, whilst enabling both at the same time has a somewhat cumulative effect of course, past 1600x1200 enabling 4x FSAA creates a larger performance drop due to the memory space requirements. Without 4x FSAA the performance is still fairly high at 1600x1200, whilst you can resolutions below this are probably more playable with it enabled.

X700 PRO (FPS) | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x960 | 1600x1200 |
Normal | 165.9 | 145.3 | 100.4 | 75.8 | 50.2 |
8x AF | 152.1 | 114.4 | 77.9 | 61.5 | 43.0 |
4x FSAA | 153.2 | 118.7 | 79.6 | 58.9 | 37.9 |
4x FSAA + 8x AF | 130.8 | 94.1 | 63.8 | 49.7 | 33.4 |
% Diff from Normal | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x960 | 1600x1200 |
8x AF | -8.3% | -21.2% | -22.5% | -18.9% | -14.3% |
4x FSAA | -7.6% | -18.3% | -20.7% | -22.3% | -24.3% |
4x FSAA + 8x AF | -21.2% | -35.2% | -36.5% | -34.5% | -33.4% |
As with the XT, the X700 PRO's FSAA or AF performance is very similar below 1600x1200, however with FSAA enabled the performance is bandwidth limited at 1600x1200, and a small gap open up between FSAA and AF. The performance impact for enabling both FSAA and AF appears to be slightly less than cumulative.
Although the Video Stress Test uses a number of features that are likely to be found in Half Life 2, it unlikely that these features will be used in a manner as they are here, so this can't be used as a definitive guide to Half Life 2 performance. However, if we were to have a guess at the likely performance characteristics for the game itself we say that its probably going to be more CPU limited on boards of this caliber as the video stress test is already fairly so and there's very little in the way of physics or AI occurring, that there probably will be in the actual game.
