Xbox 360 Price Drop by 50 USD?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Microsoft is lowering the price of their console, the Xbox 360, by $50 USD on August 8th.

The website claims that sources in the retail channel have confirmed an impending price cut that will take place in early August. However, it is still unknown if the price cut will affect all Xbox360 SKUs currently available. Apparently the move coincides with the release of several highly anticipated software titles such as BioShock or the yearly iteration of the Madden series. Microsoft aims to boost sales in the traditionally rather weak summer months.

Nevertheless, Michael Goodman, director of digital entertainment at Yankee Group, expressed doubts about whether or not Microsoft could close the gap to the current leader in home console sales in North America, Nintendo's Wii: "I think the price points are still high enough that they won't stop Nintendo from maintaining their momentum."
