AMD release more GPU specifications for open source driver development

Phoronix are reporting that AMD have released the next round of GPU spec docs for the open source community to use to develop truly open source display drivers for Radeon graphics processors.

The Linux-focused enthusiast site notes that some bits of spec and code scheduled for delivery at the same time have been delayed slightly, while AMD legal do their thing and make sure everything's in good shape for public viewing.

The development groups hacking on replacement Radeon drivers will no doubt welcome the next round of information release, helping things on their way another little bit. From the news piece:

"As we've been reporting since November, this documentation drop contains LVTMA and i2c information. This information was originally missing with the RV630 drop for covering the Radeon HD 2000 series. LVTMA is the second digital output block on the ATI R500/600 series and can handle TMDS and LVDS for DVI/HDMI and LCD panels, respectively. Only the first TMDS block was documented in the previous documentation release."

So this fresh batch of info is targeted towards making sure the display output options of drivers are more robust. The next clutch of specs will hopefully center around the 2D engine, so that acceleration can happen there.
