Continuing the theme in recent weeks of increasing signs and portents of an impending launch of AMD's new DX10 flagship GPU, R600, Tom's Hardware Guide (THG) is reporting that AMD has set a date for the inevitable "Tech Day" to brief the technical press on the finer points of their new pride and joy. According to THG Daily, it will be a three day event in Amsterdam, from March 11 through the 13th, with journalists from 45 countries attending.

For those unfamiliar with the typical process leading up to a major next generation launch, a "Tech Day" for editors is then followed by a period of independent benchmarking and article writing by the attendees that typically lasts anywhere from one to three weeks, and culminates with "NDA lift" (Non Disclosure Agreement expiration) and worldwide fun as graphics enthusiasts everywhere read about the new GPU on the scene. As we reported recently, AMD's Henri Richard promised a 1Q launch for R600, and the dates reported by THG would seem to allow AMD to make good on Richard's target date, although with not much margin to spare.
