Serious Sam: Second Encounter (SS:SE)

Here we'll use the OpenGL renderer of SS:SE.

GeForce 4 Ti4600 140.1 136.2 117.1 80.9 57.2
GeForce FX 139.6 137.8 134.2 116.5 89.6
GeForce FX (400/400) 140.9 137.8 130.5 103.6 75.4

GeForce FX 0% 1% 15% 44% 57%
GeForce FX (400/400) 1% 1% 11% 28% 32%

The relative performances of the boards are more or less as we'd expect them to be, given their fill-rate and bandwidth differences. At the least CPU/system dependant resolution we see that the 5800 Ultra is maintaining a 57% performance advantage over the GeForce4, running just shy of 90 FPS on average.

Normal 139.6 137.8 134.2 116.5 89.6
8x Aniso 139.5 137.5 128.9 99.2 72.3
4X FSAA 135.6 133.0 111.7 77.1 39.3
8x Aniso + 4X FSAA 126.4 128.6 98.6 67.1 35.5

8x Aniso 0% 0% -4% -15% -19%
4X FSAA -3% -3% -17% -34% -56%
8x Aniso + 4X FSAA -9% -7% -27% -42% -60%

The performance here is more or less in line with expectations. Using 8x AF incurs a slight fill-rate hit, with the worst case of 19%, though here the average performance is still well above 60 FPS. At 1280x1024 the FSAA performance hit is at 34%, but at 1600x1200 we once again see the fill-rate performance drop off, taking the performance loss to 56%, and sinking the average FPS just below 40. Using 8x AF with 4X FSAA take a larger perforance hit, and 1600x1200 aside it does appear to be a cumulative effect - again, this could the the same phenomena we saw with UT2003 as SS:SE does use high numbers of texture layer per pass.
