Texture Slider
The Xabre drivers feature a texture slider with 'Performance', default and 'Quality' modes. Lets take a look at the performance and IQ of each of these modes.
Texture Slider | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x1024 | 1600x1200 |
Default | 67.0 | 74.4 | 56.2 | 37.0 | 26.4 |
Performance | 65.7 | 73.5 | 55.2 | 36.7 | 25.6 |
Quality | 68.2 | 60.1 | 45.8 | 32.5 | 23.6 |
% Diff from Default | 640x480 | 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x1024 | 1600x1200 |
Performance | -2% | -1% | -2% | -1% | -3% |
Quality | 2% | -19% | -19% | -12% | -11% |
Interestingly the 'Performance' mode is performing at roughly the same rate as the default mode. The Quality mode does display a lower performance, to the tune of 19% at worst.
Looking at the IQ of the Performance and default modes we can see that they both appear to be quite similar. The coloured mip-maps image clearly shows that both are only utilising Bilinear Filtering and both also appear to have very blocky filtering at the bottom of the image. The Quality mode smoothes the texture filtering a little better and does enable Trilinear filtering as it should.
