Games Benchmarks - Splinter Cell (DirectX)

Here we'll use our Splinter Cell Oil Refinery demo to assess the performance of the X700's in this DirectX8 title.

X700 XT 64.2 58.1 51.2 40.9 34.7
X700 PRO 53.1 48.2 42.6 34.1 29.1
X800 XT 97.1 92.0 86.3 71.1 62.9
X600 XT 44.4 39.1 33.7 26.8 21.8
9800 PRO 58.3 51.8 45.9 36.7 31.8

X700 PRO 20.8% 20.6% 20.1% 20.2% 19.3%
X800 XT -33.9% -36.9% -40.7% -42.4% -44.8%
X600 XT 44.6% 48.5% 51.9% 52.8% 59.2%
9800 PRO 10.0% 12.1% 11.4% 11.5% 9.3%

X800 XT -45.3% -47.6% -50.7% -52.1% -53.7%
X600 XT 19.7% 23.1% 26.4% 27.1% 33.5%
9800 PRO -8.9% -7.0% -7.3% -7.2% -8.4%

At high resolutions the performance differences between the boards appear to correlate to their relative bandwidth differences. The 9800 PRO is the board that bucks this trend, again, as although it has a higher bandwidth than the X700's it ends up between the both of them in final performance.

X700 XT 57.5 51.4 45.0 35.6 30.3
X700 PRO 46.1 41.8 37.3 29.5 25.4
X800 XT 93.4 88.5 77.5 62.7 56.2
X600 XT 37.4 32.5 27.6 21.9 18.2
9800 PRO 50.0 43.7 38.4 29.4 25.8

X700 PRO 24.8% 23.0% 20.6% 20.6% 19.0%
X800 XT -38.4% -41.9% -41.9% -43.3% -46.2%
X600 XT 53.6% 58.3% 62.8% 62.4% 66.3%
9800 PRO 15.1% 17.8% 17.2% 20.9% 17.2%

X800 XT -50.6% -52.8% -51.9% -52.9% -54.8%
X600 XT 23.1% 28.7% 34.9% 34.7% 39.7%
9800 PRO -7.8% -4.2% -2.9% 0.3% -1.5%

The performance difference trends with 8x AF are similar to normal rendering, however here the 9800 PRO comes off a little worse, with the performance even closer to the X700 PRO - again, this is highly likely due to the differences in how the boards handle their default texture filtering, which is allowing the X700's to overcome their bandwidth deficit.
