NVIDIA ForceWare 158.18 and 158.19

NVIDIA released new drivers to go along with the launch of the G84 and G86. They boast a rather terrifyingly large version jump (from 101.xx to 158.xx) and a nice list of changes, but nothing quite as drastic as the number could imply. They're available for Vista x32/x64, and Windows XP x32/x64.

Here are the bullet points of the official change log:

  • Adds support for GeForce 8600 GTS, GeForce 8600 GT, and GeForce 8500 GT, GeForce 8400 GS, and GeForce 8300 GS GPUs.
  • Increased performance in 3D applications.
  • PureVideo™ HD support.
  • Add support for forcing Vertical Sync in DirectX applications.
  • Updated NVIDIA Control Panel with improved user interface (Please see the Release Notes for more details).
  • Numerous game and application compatibility fixes
  • There's also a leaked 165.xx driver out there, with inf files referencing NVIDIA's upcoming G98, but it doesn't seem to bring anything new to the table according to early impressions, so it might be a good idea not to bother unless you've got a specific problem with today's official release.
